The theory of evolution is one of the most important scientific concepts in biology. Proposed by Charles Darwin in the 19th century, it explains how species change over time through a process called natural selection. According to this theory, organisms that are better adapted to their environments tend to survive and reproduce more successfully, passing their advantageous traits to the next generation. Over long periods, this process leads to the emergence of new species.
