Levi's Jeans: From Gold Rush to Global Icon

Levi’s jeans, one of the most recognized clothing brands in the world, began with a simple idea during America’s 19th-century Gold Rush. In 1853, Levi Strauss, a German immigrant, moved to San Francisco to open a dry goods business. At the time, miners and laborers needed durable workwear, so Strauss partnered with tailor Jacob Davis to create tough trousers reinforced with copper rivets. This marked the birth of the first blue jeans, patented in 1873.
